I conducted an extensive search for a comprehensive database that encompasses the biological processes involved in various diseases. Although there are existing resources, such as KEGG and Reactome, that provide valuable insights into the pathways implicated in certain diseases, their coverage is limited to only a minority of diseases. While indirect methods, such as utilizing gene ontology analysis, can be employed to identify relevant biological processes, I am interested in exploring more standardized approaches or databases that can reliably identify disease-related biological processes.
One database that might be of interest to you is the Disease Ontology (DO), which provides a standardized ontology of human diseases and related medical conditions. The DO can be used to identify disease-related biological processes by linking diseases to their associated biological processes and pathways. Another resource you might want to explore is the Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO), which provides a standardized vocabulary of phenotypic abnormalities associated with human diseases. By linking phenotypic abnormalities to their associated biological processes, the HPO can help identify disease-related biological processes. Additionally, you might consider exploring the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) database, which provides a comprehensive catalogue of human genes and genetic disorders, including their associated biological processes and pathways.
