This may seem like a strange question but I found myself in possession of 5 lbs of 99.99% pure Cobalt that I am unable to sell and I am wondering if there are any optical uses for this metal (thin film deposition/coatings?).
I know it's used to make alloys but I don't have a foundry or foundry grade oven. Perhaps there are micro foundries that now exist that take on small research-level work?
Check out cobalt blue glass, and their property of filtering of some atomic emission spectra. some emission spectra like Na, K, Ca appears special when seen through the glass. Then check out UV-VIS absorption spectra of the glass. You may find a hint or two.
