I'm planning an experiment where we try to avoid light accessing the retinas of our developing (P0-P20) rats. I could use a light insulated place and red headlights. I am not sure if it could work well, but if anyone knows a better method (e.g. a patch, helmet) which is minimally invasive I'd be grateful.
I would be very careful about a patch or helmet in a developing rat because the skull is translucent.
I suggest having a “double system” in place, e.g. a locked cabinet/room within a room in case of accidental entry. You may also want to have some light monitoring device in place to ensure no light leaks.
