I detected some data about the presence of holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) in Andorra but I don't know if the information is reliable. Also anyone know examples of holm oaks in mountains? At what altitude?
Populations of holm oak in Andorra are very variable in altitude and density depending on the orientation of the slopes (same in Pyrénées-Orientales which adjoin Andorra).
Quercus ilex is abundant on the southern slopes of the parish of Sant Julià de Loria, Andorra la Vella and Engordary up to an altitude of 1300 m.
There are between 850 and 1450 m at Solà de la Moixella associated with other Mediterranean species.
Dense stands also at Solà de Nagol between 920 and 1400 m. It can reach in Andorra, in isolated trees, 1500 m for example above Rocafort, sometimes mixed with Pinus sylvestris.
Dense population at 1150 m at Solà de l'Alzinar (from the Catalan name for holm oak: alzina).
