I'm looking for a fixative that works quickly but you can safely store cells in for a longer period (i.e. a few hours). Most importantly it must be able to fix chromatin well and be compatible with fluorescence in situ hybridization (for chromosome labeling).
I have read about RNAlater being able to let cells/tissue sit in it for a while, but I am not sure if it would interfere with the chromatin or FISH experiment.
Any advice is appreciated, bonus if you can provide sources. Thanks!

the fixative metanol: acetic acid (3:1) is very good for your task, I have used for several years.

We just have an experiment that needs to contain the cells in fixative for a few hours (at least) and would still preserve the chromatin well without over-fixation for a FISH stain later on.
luis alberto mendez-rosado hello luis, I was wondering if you have a paper or validation of method assay/protocol that includes this? I just want to be able to show my supervisor some evidence without saying "oh a stranger on the internet said so" hahah any literature helps!
