Vascular plants, bryophytes and environmental conditions have all been used in assessing the conservation status of habitats listed under Annex I of the EU Habitats Directive. Given the importance of invertebrates in the functioning of ecosystems, are there any examples of EU countries that use invertebrates as part of the condition assessment of fen habitats?
There is an index that uses invertebrates, identified to species level, as indicators of conservation value of habitats in the UK at least. Hi, when righting a scientific background when organising the object of NNF like eg landscape park (normally before starting the NNP) it is necessary in my country to use animals and plants from Bern convention list esp Annex 2&3, where are threatened invertebrates.The 218 habitats are usefull in my country when you are preparing international status of bi- or three lateral NNP or Biospheric reserve. But no one habitate can b described without invertebrates and smthms even protists! I agree with EliotTaylor that some species and groups are indicative for the habitat identification. Take a look on aquatic habitats esp coral reefs or some Antarctic cliffs!
