Establishing ionic imbalance would not advance understanding very much, as there would still be no explanation for the crucial BP feature, the episodic bouts of mania and depression.
Interresting , but what do you think, ionic imbalance could not be a "trigger" for these episodes? If not, where should we search he source of relapses ?
I think bipolar disorder is triggered by sleep disorder in persons with unstable circadian rhythms (see my RG question on this).
