Since applied linguistics is the application off linguistic theories in solving community related language problems. I guess you can create certain problems requiring language use and engage the students in solving the task. Applied linguistics is a serious subject and reconciling it with daily life routines can be very interesting.

Language is life; it's embedded in our culture. We can't live without it, so I guess, we implicitly and explicitly integrate the teaching of daily life in all our linguistic classes: sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics etc.

As Nimfa says above.. language is life.. and so eg: thinking about how we use our L1 to express/interpret meanings appropriately- sociolinguistics', or how we learn, remember, store, retrieve the forms of our L1 - 'pyscholinguistics' - surely provides a lot of opportunity for classroom discussion, before introducing students to Applied Linguistics research.

eg: do we change how we speak and write our L1 in different contexts- what affects the choices we make - what examples can we give of how we express the same meanings differently in different contexts- are there strict rules that help us to make 'correct' choices? Where do these rules come from....etc

- eg: how many words do we think we know in our L1- what do we mean by saying that we 'know' a word? where and how do we we 'store' the words we know? what do we think we do when we want to 'retrieve' words from our memory to use them? etc...

Hi, you can relate what you teach to how language is used in different daily life situations, 'pragmatics'. Students learn faster when they are engaged in the process of learning, and make this engagement related to their lives and real situations. You can reorder the syllable to meet your students' needs and interests. You can ask your students to choose the topics they would like to discuss and learn if you have the authority to do this.

It is true . Language is life. And life is a theater . Because no person can live a normal life without it . But the most important point I think is that , how language items are used and in what situation they are appropriate .(use.+ usage)

I believe it is not just possible, but beneficial to do combine in a formal language class.

I would look at L2 motivation as a topic, both addressing this very large applied linguistic field and making it relevant to your students in their every day learning challenges. I can imagine how it would also make them more conscious of what motivates them and how fluctuation in their motivation is normal.

Another, perhaps more 'fun' topic is codeswitching. I imagine your students to be in some sort of immersive situation where codeswitching is an everyday experience.

Há concepções teórico-epistemológicas que abordaem a linguagem como mediação da ação humana. É o caso do Interacionismo Sociodiscursivo (ISD), que representa uma rede internacional de pesquisadores da Suíça, do Brasil, de Portugal e da Argentina, dentre outros países. Essa rede desenvolve pesquisas que propõem 0 ensino cujo cotidiano é fonte permanente de problematização das práticas de linguagem, que são objeto da linguística aplicada em uma perspectiva indisciplinar, sócio-histórica e sociointeracionista.

Na minha opinião, não há como fazer pesquisa ou prática pedagógica no geral na perspectiva da Linguística Aplicada sem levar em consideração questões da vida diária. Acho que os "livros clássicos" aos quais você se refere são aqueles restritos a uma concepção de aplicação de linguística, o que está bastante distante da atual LA, que se concebe como transdisciplinar, mestiça, transgressiva etc. Tomando como recurso a Teoria Dialógica, a LA tem compreendido o ensino e a aprendizagem como processos ininterruptos de interação discursiva. Esses processos só são possíveis em atividades de ensino vinculadas à língua/linguagem na cadeia viva da enunciação. Em outras linhas teóricas, como na amplitude dos estudos sociointeracionistas, compreensões semelhantes são encontradas, atribuindo à LA um caráter dinâmico, longe do que determinavam os livros clássicos de aplicação de linguística, em suas diversas dimensões.

De fato, as concepções de "aplicação linguística", abordadas em alguns referenciais do passado, não representam a concepção atual de Linguística Aplicada a que fazemos referência. Na verdade, nossa sugestão decorre de referências que partem da abordagem de Moita Lopes (2006) de um LA indisciplinar que dialoga com outras áreas e concepções teórico-metodológicas. É o caso do capítulo do livro de Moita Lopes que apresenta um viés sociohistórico em LA, apresentado por Roxane Rojo. Tal viés é identificado com o Interacionismo Sociodiscursivo (ISD), um campo de estudo voltado para o desenvolvimento de uma 'ciência do humano', que envolve grandes pesquisadores de diversos países, conforme mencionamos no comentário anterior, que muito contribuem para um diálogo produtivo com a LA, à luz da filosofia da linguagem (em torno do Círculo de Bakhtin), dos estudos culturais, de identidade nessa época contemporânea, da psicologia histórico-cultural e da ergonomia e clínica da atividade, por exemplo, que tem sido um caminho que temos ousado trilhar, para não perder de vista, justamente, uma postura mestiça de pesquisa que procura compreender as práticas sociais de linguagem abraçando áreas para além da já conhecida "linguística teórica", porque também entendemos que ela sozinha não dá conta de abraçar a problematização de tais práticas, até porque elas se explicam e podem ser compreendidas muito além dos muros da escola, o que nos leva a negar a aplicação linguística. Na verdade, estamos tentando ir além dela.
