There are more and more challenges for the teacher to capture students' attention in their classrooms. Can the use of films - in whole or in part - help teaching management?
Yes, using film and TV series can be useful, but in a different way than is usually thought. Film is often used in education because it is easy: the information is provided in a pleasant form. And although it takes time to watch, frequently only those films are chosen that fit in with the story one wants to tell, i.e. film as an illustration. It would be much more valuable if films were taken seriously as a form of modern mythology that shows existential matters that touch the emotional and rational world and that should provoke reflection. It is precisely films and TV series that reach a large audience that are a challenge for education: quality films [and by that I do not mean Art House, but many Hollywood films] give an insight into what ordinary people find important, what it is all about in essence in matters of Life and Death. See our research into the many hospital and police series, which show an imaginary world in which it is about security, trust, honesty, empathy, community, civilization etc. etc. Chapter 2016 - Moral imagination at work
In other words: film could become an essential new source of insight, perhaps especially for managers who understand that good management has everything to do with what you want to manage. And that insight lies ahead of us given the large number of films and TV series; although acquiring insight and understanding requires of course sufficient and specialized knowledge of the own merits of film stories.
Moreover, animated movies or series are often used in education because these are provided in delivering information and students' attribution in the classrooms
Great ideas from everyone. I thank everyone. I have had great experiences in the use of films, in whole or in part, in teaching. The generation of debate was excellent, facilitating the learning climate.
