When will South America (or specifically Argentina) win a science Nobel Prize?
Another year without a Nobel Prize coming to South America
The last time that a South American scientist was awarded with a Nobel Prize was César Milstein, Physiology or Medicine, 1984. Are the richest countries rich because they inverts a lot in science? or they inverts a lot in science because they are rich?
The list is very short: Argentine 3, Brazil 1, Venezuela 1
A bit strange question, I believe that the richest countries are rich because of a mixture of longtime education of a privileged part of their population, because of being lucky having wealthy resources (or having taken resources from others), living for a long time without war on their grounds etc etc
In Argentina education has been free and complusry since the late 19th Century. When the system was put intoplace Argentina was NOT among the richest ntions I South America.. That would come over a decade later, anf for further clarification, Argentina did NOT steal resources from other countries,. The Revolution in the Pampas" as Scobie called it came as a result of enlightened policies. : Alberdi proclaimed "To Govern is to populate" and Argentina filled her vast empty spaces with immigrants, much to the envy and despair of certain neighboring countries...

Remarkabley, it is also a science popularization book, based on the extensive body of research of the authors in the last 2 decades, that is accesible to everyone. Naturally, they have they critics and supporters...
