According to the SDG6, every human being on earth should have access to safe and affordable drinking water by 2030. Meanwhile, the uneven distribution of these social needs is further widening the gap coupled with increasing global urbanization. Many people also take clean drinking water and sanitation for granted, while water scarcity affects more than 40 percent of people around the world. With this pace of executing the SDG6 agenda are we doing enough to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030?
It is true that clean watee and danitatiin for all by 2030 is an ovjective that needs collaboration by UN agencies, governments, companies, NGOs snd even ordinary people.
It is too early to say if the objective can be achieved by 2030 and progress will be different in different countries. Clean sanitation and water is easily found in those countries where national cultures promote such things. Japan is good example. Eater can be drunk direct from taps and sanitation facilities are generally of high standards.
I don't want sound pessimistic, but the goals of the SDG6 can not be actualized in most developing countries. In the Biafra land which is under occupation by Nigeria, especially in the oil-producing areas, the indigenous people who own the oil-wealth defecate in the same river they drink and use for domestic activities. This is because the environment, water, and air have been unimaginably polluted. In Nigeria, there is maximum corruption by politicians, office holders, and leaders. This makes it very impossible for people to be aware of the SDG6 and its goals. Nigerian politicians are maximally corrupt that they can kill thousands of the citizens to perpetuate their corrupt and selfish aims. The resources for actualizing the SDG6 are stolen and stored in European and American banks, thereby by impoverishing the people the more and perennially.
The SDC are ambitious targets and will always be difficult to make. The challenge is due to population and infrastructure.
