I have a client who was married to a narcissist (she diagnosed him). Though they are divorced now, she has thought a multitude of times that he ex-husband has hacked into her cell phone and computer. Is hacking typical for narcissists?
There is no inherent link between narcissism and hacking. Hacking is a technical skill that can be used for malicious purposes, but it can also be used for ethical reasons, such as penetration testing to identify security vulnerabilities in computer systems.
People with narcissistic personality disorder may engage in behaviors that could be seen as similar to hacking, such as:
Violating other people's privacy in order to gain control or information.
Tricking or manipulating others to get what they want.
Having a sense of entitlement and believing that they are above the rules.
However, it's important to remember that most people with narcissism do not hack into other people's devices. Hacking is a serious crime and can have significant consequences.
If you are concerned that someone may be hacking into your devices, there are steps you can take to protect yourself. These include:
Using strong passwords and changing them regularly.
Being careful about what information you share online.
Installing security software on your devices.
Keeping your software up to date.
If you suspect that you are being targeted by a narcissist, it is important to set boundaries and limit your contact with them. You may also want to consider seeking professional help.
