I want to gather large-scale survey responses to simple questions online. I'm having trouble recruiting from standard sources (students, social networks) and thinking of trying some "clickworker" style app. I know Mturk is full of bots and not worth the trouble. What alternatives are there, particularly ones that have built-in bot detection to prevent that problem. I'm willing to pay small payment fees to workers, but don't want to have to manage the payment myself, so an all-in-one solution where I can pay survey respondents a dollar or two to complete surveys without managing the payment myself would be ideal.
If you are finding it difficult to gather respondents from traditional social media sites, you could consider opting for snowball sampling wherein you identify one respondent who will then help you secure other respondents on a pay per respondent basis. Additionally, you could inform the first respondent that you will be acknowledging them in your paper. This will be an additional motivation for the first respondent to help you secure respondents.
