The plate of made of titanium grade 12 was explosively welded to bimetal plate made of titanium grade 1 and carbon steel. Investigation of residual stresses on free surface of titanium garde 12 exhibits compressive  stress state. The kinematics of this unique welding process proves that it should be tension stress state but measurements are against this rule. I figure only one solution - the phase transformation that increases the volume and causes compressive stress state.
