Should we necessarily put the electrodes such as silver paste, thermal evoperation or sputtering of metal electrodes on both sides of a dielectric material before putting them in between the electrodes?
Can we avoid MWS and electrode polarizations by not putting these extra electrodes?
Dear Suresh, The use of painted, evaported or sputtered electrode is highy recommended (especially the three electrode system with guard ring). It has the following advantages:
a.) less error from the unvenness of the sample surface (no air gap which reduces the effective permittivity)
b.) if you do not use coated electrode, you will almos always have a blocking electrode (e.g. stainless steel), while in the case of evaorted electrode your contact can be partly of fully ohmic. This is extremely important if you are studying not only dielecttirc properties but also conductivity
c.) without coated electrrode you will have problems at low frequency and/or high temeperature because of electrode polarization
