5G cellular research is proposing several new aspects in terms of radio access technology, cell sizes, Antenna technology etc. But I think the major hurdle in implementing a less than ms latency for 5G communication will be core networks.
Is there any research in this area or can anyone share any idea on this, or research paper perhaps.
Syed, let me take pleasure to answer you. Indeed backhaul or fronthaul when we talk about small cell densification in 5G network - would be a challenge in 5G networks. Network densification needs more extensive fronthaul like fiber however deploying fiber may not be a cost effective for several reasons so we left with only wireless solution. In wireless, what we have in hand is microwave link that could not support giga bits per sec. So we need to think about moving higher in spectrum selection such as mm-wave or FSO based fronthaul links - this is one problem. Other problem is placement of backhaul hubs i.e. already a NP-Hard problem. Solution to this problem could be UAV- BS. So combining both - mm-wave or FSO based UAV could be considered as a new solution to backhual/fronthaul problems. Like many new other stuff it also has some challenges such as weather, implementation, some cost etc. I would suggest if you read some papers and may be follow some of our joint paper you may get some ideas.
