I feel finite element analysis are performed in two ways one is purely a forced based analysis and another method is displacement based analysis. I don't think strain is directly considering in analysis but indirectly by increasing or decreasing the number of load steps used to obtain the results will control the strain.

Abaqus has a number of built-in material models that allow specifying rate effects. Please see, for instance, "Classic metal plasticity" --> "Rate-dependent yield" or "Rate-dependent plasticity". Furthermore, many of the material models have a toggle for "Use strain-rate-dependent data".

Philip Eisenlohr, I am aware of the "strain rate-dependent data" option. I was wondering if the material models already account for strain rate somehow, even if that option is turned off. From your answers, I understand that they do not. In that case I will use that option to consider strain rate.

It depends on material model you are considering. If the constitutive equations accounts for strain rate effect then you will get its effect in results. Elastic or elasto-plastic model based on single stress strain curve doesnot account for strain rate effect. You have to use strain rate dependent data...
