Scientific publication involves inputs from the authors, editors (including copyeditors) reviewers, and some technical/office staff members. Interestingly, most copyeditors and some academic editors (in some publishing firms) are paid but the reviewers are left out despite being key players. On rare occasions, reviewers are awarded certificates. Can't reviewers enjoy benefits such as free access to publications (in subscription-based journals), service charge, 100% waiver on APC, etc? Do you think reviewers are well remunerated?
