Are reactive dyes the most complex dyes in terms of textile dyes for removal studies (at least in comparison to direct dyes)?
I need some basic information (for example,features, toxicity etc.) on Reactive Black %, Reactive Blue 52, Reactive Green 15, Reactive Yellow 125, Reactive Red 194, Reactive Cibacron FN-2R and Reactive Blue 4 (at least a few of these).
That depends on the kind of removal you are looking for. Usually textile dyes are not biodegradable. However, reactive dyes hydrolyse rather quickly in water and are therefore removed via abiotic degradation. For example, the half-life of Reactive Back 5 at pH 7 and 25°C is 1-2 days (study for abiotic degradation in water and aerobic degradation in water/sediment). Usually reactive dyes are not very toxic. The major effect on aquatic organism in ecotoxicity tests is often not due to toxicity, but due to light absorbtion which causes an inhibition of algae growth. However, it is easy to decolorize the wastewater for reactive dyes e.g. by means of flocculation or oxidation of the dye.
