I was reading some research journal having NAAS rating more than 12 but in some of the papers , the number of authors were 8 to 10. I could not understand that which aurhor is a real worker because at the time of evaluation, each one of them will claim equal points. Now, I want to know is it justifiable to put names of 8 to 10 researchers in a research paper? Or it should not be.

In my viewpoint, each research has a limitation, and I think the number of authors is one of this limitation.

If the authors contributed enough then it is ok if there are multiple co-authors also. What that matter should be putting simply their names without the contribution.
Depends on the type of study. I have noticed that more than 6 authors are present in geological studies. After all, only one of the authors wrote the report, and one reported at a conference. Many colleagues in my area do not accept well works with more than 3 authors.
I give an example of a laboratory study that requires four people, and the fifth has done a technical data processing. Everyone has a certain contribution. I do not comment on what the idea would be.

Only the workers with their sigificant contributions should be kept in the authors list.
It is quite common to have that many authors in natural sciences/ STEM, due to the comolex nature of their research.
Generally, it depends on the type of the research to be conducted and the issue to be addressed. In any case, the inclusion of an author's name should be justified by his contribution in the paper.

I think it's absolutely fine as long as all the members make the contribution. I have done this in my research where we had 6 members, where we had our own specific area of contribution.

I think that each research has its own specificity, and the number of researchers does not necessarily have to be determined
I think it is no issue to have many authors in a paper. Personally, in multiple authored paper it is quite challenging to achieve and gauge ‘equal’ contribution BUT as long as everyone has substantially contributed in the paper, for example they helped secured the funding, conceptualised the work, data gathering (or shared considerable datasets), analysed the data, writing/editing, and approved the final version of the manuscript. Some journals would even indicate author’s contribution in the end of the MS.
To me the confusion comes from the difference to A. Contribution to the research - yes there could be many. and B. Contribution to writing and drafting the paper - there is unlikely for many to actually write the paper.
But to use a musical analogy - if you have an orchestra or a conductor - who arranges the music - who would you credit?
Marcus Kit Petz I think not all authors are expected contribute equally in writing and drafting. Commonly the primary author is responsible for most part of the writing and editing the paper, other co-authors help review and comment on how to form the work.
Most of the time only three or four people work in a research paper. So it should be made mandatory to mention only those authors who have contributed, rest should be acknowledged.

Yes. There is no limit on umber of authors. But there should not be undue consideration. Some studies are multidisciplinary involving various scientists from different fields and different institutions. In that case, the number of authors will obviously be more. All those who have contributed in work, should be given due consideration.
