In the universities, scientists are appointed/ selected as administrators by default because they never undertook any administrative training. Hence, can we think that good scientists are good administrators too?
Difficult question. Anyhow, No doubt, we have a thinking that a good scientist can not be a good administrator. But, a scientist is a highly qualified, honest and dedicated person. He gets the administrative position based on his scientific and academic achievements. May be in the starting phase his performance as administrator not up to the mark, but he gets into his new job very soon and becomes a good administrator. Moreover, himself being a scientist, he can better understand the problems of scientists unlike a bureaucrat becoming administrator of an academic institution
