Tannic acid when reacts with Folin-ciocalteu reagent in alkaline pH gives absorbance max. at 725nm. Phenolic compounds also give the same reaction they can be estimated by the same mehod. Refer J. Sci. Food Agric. 1993. 16;161-165

The butanol-HCl method by Terril et al is a reliable method for condensed tannin determinations, we use predominantly for forage samples but have also used for grains.
