Tx. splendens and Tx. amboinensis are generally distinguished by the color of the hair tufts on segment VIII of the male abdomen where splendens has tawny and amboinensis, black.

Specimens I have collected appear to have black tufts but when examined under a light, projects a deep golden brown color. DNA sequences were non conclusive also. Any expert opinion on this?
