Based on response surface methodology (RSM) of the design experts software, two-dimension graph were obtained. The influence of two independent variables (X1X2) on the response (QY) is shown in the graph.
How to explain the effect of their binary interaction on the response?
Not familiar with the Response Surface Methodology but was using my mathematics intuition that one looks to be a mirror image of the other...and therefore a mirror reflection of variables. In extended analysis, if it was required to show how the two variables (on x and y axes) are correlated, then one would easily draw a line of perfect fit in the middle, to establish the line of best fit.

They seem to have some kind of correlation between the decisión variables.
The two presented curves were most likely obtained with X1 fixed and varying X2 (black curve) or with varying X1 when X2 was fixed (red curve). Does it say anything about response surface, i.e. the one describing the influence of X1 and X2 (both varying independently) on result QY? Of course not. The two curves are like the terrain profile as seen along the fixed meridian or along fixed latitude.
