if they are all about the same size - you could create a calibration curve for a spec- but really the easiest way is to use a haemocytometer counting slide
Dr. Grant thank you for the suggestions. The samples that we are using wil have more than two algal species. Different is size class too. I think, as u said, cell counting will be appropriate for this.
I consider using Neubauer lam for this research. This microscobic slide contains counting area and this area has a certain volume (around 0.0009 ml). First, you count the micro-algae in this area one by one. Then you can use proportion, and this time you will find the amount of it in a liter. However, you should count at least four times and you will count arithmetic mean of the counts.
