I am going to provide an answer which is rather indirect. There is a resident community, upstream the Port-Reitz Creek in Mombasa, Kenya. The resident population was, initially made up of local people. They understood the importance of mangroves as a habitat for fish, crabs, lobsters etc. Consequently, they conserved the mangrove habitat as it was bringing benefits in terms of income from fishing activities. They were not keeping any data in terms of fish catch income, but, all they knew was that life was good. Then came another community, initially, not resident to the area.

The new community saw the mangrove forest as a source of charcoal and building poles. They started harvesting these from the mangrove forest. The consequence was a decline in fish catch and income for the indigenous local population. This resulted in disharmony between the two communities occasioned by the resource use conflict. While I have some knowledge about this issue, I did not venture to find out if data was generated, However, my colleagues in Research Gate, particularly those involved in marine science studies, may have better insight on the subject. Does my answer tickle the mind of such one colleague to provide a more comprehensive answer to the questioner, I wonder?

There are probably many examples from the fishing industry and what people want to eat. For example, the current popularity of eating crab claws risks serious damage and starvation to the discarded, clawless crabs.

For eels, the immigrating glass eel stage (civelles) has been a popular component of southern European cuisine, to the detriment of adult stocks.

Among freshwater crayfish, the 4 CRAYNET symposia studied socio-economic aspects of harvest of European species, published in the open-access Journal BFPP: Nos. 370-371 (2003) on keystone species notably white-clawed crayfish, linking science, management and economics with sustainable environmental quality; 372-373 (2004) on socio-economics and conservation of noble crayfish; 376-377 (2005) on land-use and habitat deterioration with reference to the stone crayfish, and 380-381 (2006), linking research and management strategies to conservation and socio-economic development of heritage species.

You could look into Ostrom's social-ecological systems (SES). There are also a number of studies about measuring well-being of humans in relation to different factors of wildlife. What comes to mind are studies about native americans and salmon. Check out The Heartbeat of Our People”: Identifying and Measuring How Salmon Influences Quinault Tribal Well-Being (Amberson et al., 2016). Biedenweg (second author) has also done much research on this topic.

I attach the pdf file of a paper centred in the social value and perception of a particular area within a protected area of Madeira Island (Portugal), the peninsula of Ponta de Sao Lourenço. It's one of the most visited sites in this island, both by locals and tourists, and the study offers interesting conclusions. I think this is one of the few articles about this matter related to the Macaronesian or Mid-Atlantic islands.
