I am planning my Ph.D. and wanted to start writing a proposal for the same. But I am too much confused with topics. After doing a lot of brainstorms finally I decided below topics which are best in my Interest.
I am looking your expert guidance for finalizing topic from below segments.
All these topics are best for me and in my deep interest. Please help me to decide the final topic with your expert suggestions.
1. How demat accounts are helping to manage the stock market activities in different countries.
This issue deals with securities transaction. Dematerialized account scheme is to promote efficient transactions in securities trading. Since such transaction management is covered by electronic means, as a research topic it is quite limited in scope. Even when looking at its effect on the securities market, it is more or less asking the same question in the banking industry: "How does the ATM machine affect banking?" What is the future application or contribution to
the field or professional development of the researcher? Practically nil.
2. Role of the financial manager in the company to sort out money matters.
This is not really a research topic. Money management is the job description of financial managers. The topic has to do more with organization management than with finance.
3. Insider Trading and Its Interaction with Compensation
This is not much a topic to research unless you are studying law. It is more appropriate for legal studies since insider trading is limited to economies that have stock exchange, and all stock exchanges are regulated by security exchange law.
4. Financial Risk Management
This may be interesting and useful topic in like of the off and on financial crisis in the world market. Risk management, or at least more effective risk management tools, is of interest to both academics and managers. After your Ph.D., with such research topic in your resume, you stands a better chance of landing a good position in the job market.
BUT then again ... opinion is just opinion.

TRACING AND VOUCHING. Start at the end of the goal and then work you work backward. Assume that you do research on financial risk management, what is the ultimate goal? academic research? industry application? professional development? With these answer in mind that trace the steps back to try to construct the research process that would lead to that goal. Do not just do research to get the degree. What will you do with that degree is more important.
Do the same for tracing. With a given research course of action for your degree, trace the probable route of what that will lead. Compare the result of both tracing and vouching. If the result of both processes are not the same, then there is a problem. It is time to think and re-think your plan.
AVOID. Try to avoid using time series as a research tool if you intend for your work to have practical application in the industry. Times series, using any models in the AR family, is for long-term time-based data analysis. You would be better to opt for both parametric and non-parametric statistical testing. Risk management in the industry has short-horizon or short-term application. Therefore, long-term
forecasting under AR models are not appropriate.
