dear Carlo i think this species could be Assiminea succinea, is tipical of soft bottoms where there is mangrove, is distributed from massachusetts to southern Brazil
Dear Carlo, it could be related to Parodizia uruguayensis Pereira de Medina, 1959?
see: Da-Silva, Maria-Cristina-Pons; Veitenheimer-Mendes, Inga-Ludmila, 2004: Transferencia do genera monotipico Parodizia Medina de Bithyniidae (Gastropoda, Prosobranchia) para Pyramidellidae (Gastropoda, Heterobranchia). Revista Brasileira de Zoologia 21(2): 277-280
Let me toss Sayella Dall, 1885 (Type OD Leucotina hemphilli Dall, 1884) into the mix for discussion, as a potential earlier synonym of Parodizia and Petitella. See Wise, 1996, fig. 15 .
Dear Carlo, I'll leave others to identify the organism but please remember that there is no such word as specie - 'species' is both singular and plural. best wishes, Mike
I could not see any illustration of Parodizia uruguayensis Medina , 1959 his published in a rare magazine called " Neotropica 5 (17 ) : 51-55 " . The type that you post is different from the type that is illustrated in da Silva Mendes & Veitenheimer- 2004 (seems a real Pyramidellidae), your type instead looks like a " freshwater grastropod " . " Syrnolopsidae " ???
Do more research because it could be a species new to science.
They are two different species. The species found by Carlo M. Cunha in the mangroves area, is not the same figurated by da Silva & Mendes-Veitenheimer, 2004 in the article. the first is a "freshwater species" the second is a real Pyramidellidae. Roberto Ardovini.
If anyone has a copy of Medina, 1959, a PDF would be most appreciated. I agree with Ardovini that Cunha's shell is not conspecific with that figured by Silva & Veiteheimer-Mendes, 2004, disagree that it is a freshwater species. I would provisionally place Cunha's shell in Sayella Dall, 1885 (TS, OD, Leucotina hemphilli Dall, 1884) because of it's similarity to figures of the type species published of Wise, 1996, fig. 15. A specimen with the protoconch intact would be helpful.
