Does anyone know of a study that investigates determinants of being both highly satisfied at the job and a high performer? I am looking to conduct an empirical study that examines predictors of high adherence to practice standards concurrent with high professional satisfaction among physicians.

I have found numerous studies that analyze the factors that influence either performance or satisfaction. But I have found no studies that predict the concurrence of both good performance and happiness at the job. There are also dozens of studies that assess whether satisfaction causes good performance, or vice versa. However I am more familiar with the healthcare and psychology literature, but have little knowledge of management literature or organizational science. Surely there is a precedent out there for this kind of study. Not so?
