Several of the methods to do this are explained in a rather involved way; could somebody simplify / give us a basic idea of how to use these methods and how they work?
Follow the attached file to know how to calculate lattice parameters once you know the 2theta positions for a fixed wavelength. It is very easy to calculate the lattice parameres if the lattice is high symmetric (Cubic, tetragonal and hexagonal) because the unknown parameters are one (a) for cubic and two (a and c) for tetragonal and hexagonal phases. For orthorhombic, three unknown namely a, b and c. Therefore, you need more peaks. If you already familiar with the basics of crystallography, then you can use standard softwares like treor, powd, expo etc to index the XRD pattern for the known orthorhombic lattice. You may get many possible lattice parameter values, few or one of them may be matching with your structure.
