The suggestion given to you until now are good references. However, I see your problem. I think is going to be difficult to find a specific number for coastal aquaculture production... Most of the marine aquaculture is still coastal, but there is an increasing development of open water aquaculture. You may want to turn around the question and see if there are any numbers about open ocean/deep water aquaculture and then by difference on the total marine aquaculture, what is left would be coastal. I hope it helps.
Thank you for your interest in help. I have this already, however it couldn't answer my question about the coastal aquaculture definitely. Thanks again.
I think you got my question. After browsing around, i think we have a great void in defining the coastal aquaculture alone until now.
Totally agree with you!! by this way of turning around i can find an estimated number, however in some countries there are some coastal fresh or brackish water aquaculture, i don't have idea if it will affect that estimation or no.
I believe that brackish water culture it is included in the marine one, in particular I am sure of that for bivalve aquaculture.
I am not sure what you refer to when you talk about coastal freshwater. Would you be able to give me an example? I tend to think of coastal aquaculture as brackish and salt water only, but I may not be aware of some particular practice of other countries, as you said.
This is correct, i found that brackish water is included in the marine aquaculture production. But as far as i know that FAO data is a collection of regional data and that depend on how the regional organization consider their aquaculture environment.
for example: in my country (Egypt) they still recognize about 70% of aquaculture as fresh water, however in reality it is not fresh after saltiness processes of the coastal lakes which are the main source for aquaculture facilities there.
