Is there any scientific data or published article to show that cases of aggressive periodontal disease with positive family history have or are at more risk for increased periodontal breakdown?
Before all these linkage analysis studies emerged, the very starting of genetic predisposition studies started as twin studies and family aggregation studies. When it was found over and over again that periodontal disease was seen in families and that a family history of periodontitis (specially aggressive) was a major risk factor, then came an era of reared apart and reared together twin studies (mono and dizygotic) to verify that the effect was not just environmental but had a genetic link to it.
After getting positive results from those studies, then the search began for the specific genetic polymorphism and eventually genetic linkage analysis studies and so called SNP studies started. Now the new buzz is multi-linkage analysis studies. That means a combination of different SNP's would be having effect and not just one or two.
You will find tHe answer to your question in articles published between 70's to 90's
and 3)familial aggregation are definition criteria for AgP
my question was not that
Prof Tatakis link answers the question...if there are two AgP patients, one with family history of AgP and other without family history of AgP..risk of periodontal destruction is more in the patient with family history of AgP..
This may not directly answer your question, but it is perhaps pertinent.
The following study looked at risk indicators for periodontitis (chronic and aggressive combined) and showed that risk for periodontitis was greater among subjects who reported positive family history.
