Dear Professors and friends, I have Core i7 laptop, so can i run CASTEP job by it or not directly from material studio 7.0? As I tried once for energy determination of graphene layer and my window hanged until i forced to restart.
You should be able to run CASTEP calculations on your laptop, I use my own laptop for this fairly often, though not usually from Materials Studio. I suggest you try a small calculation, such as a conventional 8-atom silicon cell, and check that everything is installed correctly, and the Gateway is set-up.
If the initial calculation runs successfully, then you should be fine to run larger calculations; however you should be careful not to exceed the total RAM of your laptop, or Windows will start paging data to disk, which is very slow, and can make your computer very slow to respond. Materials Studio might be using quite a lot of RAM itself, so you might want to quit that while the calculation runs in the background. You can always check memory usage under Windows using the Task Manager.
