I'm looking forward to research on artificial intelligence. So I require a list of the current unsolved or new problems in this field, preferably in its specializations of machine learning, computational intelligence, knowledge engineering, cognitive science and artificial neural networks.

instead of finding new problems on this area, try to map some problems of some other areas to the existing Np-hard set. e.g. some problems of medical science can easily be mapped like this. in this manner u can find some new problem to solve also it will help the mankind significantly.
I am also in a similar situation and looking for problems to solve using AI /machine learning etc. As I am having an extensive industrial back ground, I am currently looking at fault detection in industrial equipment. You can look at some of the industrial equipment and their fault patterns and work from there- it is my suggestion, if you have not found any suitable topic yet.
There is no new or old in machine learning problems. Those who are solved in previous that was not fullly solved problems. You can pick any one of the current problem or the past solved one. You can also go with back propogation etc.,
