Neonatal deaths in koalas outnumbered deaths from Lymphosarcoma when I analysed a decade of koala deaths at Dreamworld. This problem is probably underestimated because some managers are less fastidious at recording births at the time. In production animals less wastage enables more selection, for conservation it would enable limiting to more favoured pairings to maintain genetic diversity.
