has anyone used simple magnetic beads (used in co-IP assays) to isolate cells from blood samples? Most protocols use streptavidin-magnetic beads for positive selection of labelled cells with biotinylated antibodies. I wonder whether we could use simple magnetic beads directly bond to antibodies to isolate cells from blood samples.

Miltenyi Biotec produces microbeads directly conjugated to a variety of monoclonal antibodies for the purpose of magenetic bead selection of cell populations from blood samples. They also have protein A/protein G kits. I am including a link:

Hopefully, this is what you are looking for. I have used their products for decades. The procedure is straightforward to perform, fairly rapid and good purity and yield.

We use Ni-NTA magnetic beads (Dynabeads and Hispur) with his-tagged antibodies to isolate cells in our lab. The protocol for this is similar to the manufacturer's pulldown for Co-IP, with the exception of the composition of the buffer which needs to be optimized for your bacteria.
