I am using Rose Bengal as a photosensitizer coated on a substrate. To cure this layer we are considering use of a vacuum oven to remove the solvents but are concerned about outgassing of the RB. Does anyone have knowledge of the vapor pressure properties of RB (i.e., pressure developed versus temperature)?
HI Edward- Thanks for your input. I checked several MSDS and they were as you say. And agreed that 10-6 to 10-5 Torr in SEM is a positive although I imagine the RB is solidly attached as it is a stain. I'm not too worried about damaging the pump or exhaust hazard because the amount will be < 1 milligram; greater concern is that it would gradually desorb over time due to vacuum. We are going ahead with experiment and expect that we will see gradual decline- but whether it is due to slow desorption or gradual decomposition of RB is going to require some work to unravel. Unlikely we would use any of the others you mention, only other candidate we've considered is methyl blue or similar. Thanks again for your thoughts.
I have no knowledge on the out gassing properties of Rose Bengal as a photosensitizer coating. But for any material, the outgassing (or degassing) increases as the temperature increases.
