IF YOU WANT TO KNOW STRENGTH AND WEAKNESS CONSIDER NORMS OF QUALITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION

I looked at the model by John Egan (2001).   This may give a little more insight on grass root activism in the community.

And maybe  after the critical review you could  design a  case-control  study in order to test it. 

Garrison model is a good place to start for anyone wanting to work in the area of CMC transcript analysis.  The social, cognitive and teaching presence of the model also gives enough scope for researchers to check the validity or otherwise of the framework. A number of CMC researchers are now criticizing the model, I think mainly due to changes in technology and the pedagogical practices that that entails. I actually tested my SQUAD Approach to CMC discourse against the cognitive presence aspect of the framework with a number of interesting results.

One suggestion from my own experience with COI is, when COI was originally designed/modeled, technology was rolled in as part of the model- technology was seen as part of the teaching presence if I'm not mistaken.  Now with the varying tools that are available, technology is a lot more pervasively intertwined into the social, cognitive and teaching presence.  

So maybe to jump start a thought - should there be a separate area to map technological presence, or maybe there should be a more clear statement of where or if technology would play a part of how COI meets todays needs.
