Hello! SOS!!!

So I performed an ANCOVA analysis using SPSS, my results show that the covariate was not significant but the fixed variable was significant. But the association between my dependent and fixed variables remained significant even after i adjusted for the covariate. How do i interpret this?

like if my covariate did not adjust the association between the predictor and the outcome, why was the result still significant for the fixed variable after adjusting for the covariate?

Secondly, can I predict if there was a positive or negative relation between my variables using ANCOVA, or do I need to do a linear regression for that ?
