I am trying to develop an analytical model to study the propagation of fracture in reinforced concrete structures. I would really appreciate it if anyone could suggest to me the optimal analytical model to study the crack propagation.

Not sure why you are working on a classic problem that has been treated extensively using many different approaches in the past: example particle method, digital image correlation, fracture mechanics, probabilistic models, mixed-mode crack propagation, finite element modeling, etc. If you do not have something in mind that is novel, you could be duplicating existing efforts. May by you could start by doing a decent literature review and search of pertinent databases and look at the existing literature before you invest too much time into this. Good luck.
Moncef L. Nehdi Firstly, thank you so much for your advice. Being new in fracture mechanics, I suppose the analytical methods will create a strong foundation. After some analytical concepts, I will start the literature review and try to find something new. please suggest some tips for the rookie researcher in fracture propagation.
What I am trying to say is that this field been has been killed with research and others spent years working on it and had teams of students exploring it. If you are starting thesis research maybe you could consider whether this is the right direction to explore, or could you select a more timely topic with more potential for novelty and better prospects of success. If you are passionate about fracture and feel that you can add to the state-of-the-art then that is a different discussion. Good luck.
