In Higly calcareous soils Semitolerant crps like Bt hybrid cotton, Vegetables and tolerant crops like Cereals, Sorghum, Wheat and Legume Dolichus Purpureus can be grown sucessfully under limited irrigations. Humic acid seed treatment and foliar spray before floweringand Fertilizer mixed with it or along with Organic manures found best. Tank silt application, Chelated micronutrients soils application 25% higher RDP, split P&Mg , Foliar Zn, P, K are few avenues besides Bio-stimulants like Sagarika GA3, 6BA Strobins/Mono are being practiced with hope by the farmers and under verification in OFTS.
Calcareous soils have often more than 15% CaCO3 in the soil that may occur in various forms (powdery, nodules, crusts etc…). Soils with high CaCO3 belong to the Calcisols and related calcic subgroups of other soils. They are relatively widespread in the drier areas of the earth.The potential productivity of calcareous soils is high where adequate water and nutrients can be supplied. In calcareous soil pH between 7 to 8.5 ;carbonate ion may be dominant in soil and calcium induced potassium deficiency and micro-nutrients like iron,manganese,copper,zinc and boron pH above 7.1 may be deficient . Calcareous soil may be reclaimed by use of gypsum as calcium sulfate, enriched organic manure like vermi-compost to increase the buffering capacity of soil. Orchard specially citrus may be suitable for cultivation with inter-cropping of vegetables ,turmeric and ginger.
