Hi all,

Greetings. I am currently working on loading my functionalised MWCNTs (f-MWCNTs) with a compound that is reconstituted in water but stumbled on a problem. After 24 h stirring of the f-MWCNTs with my compound, I washed my loaded f-MWCNTs thrice with absolute ethanol and planned to wash it thrice subsequently with ultrapure water as described in the protocol by Tan et al. 2020 (as attached). I conducted the washing step through ultracentrifugation at 10,000 rpm for 10 min.

I noted that it was not possible to separate the loaded f-MWCNTs from water in the first wash. I attempted to wash the loaded f-MWCNTs (another batch) with 10% ethanol but the f-MWCNTs do not separate either. (This is possibly due to the nature of the f-MWCNTs?) I've attempted filtering the loaded f-MWCNTs previously using a vacuum filter and a Filtres Fioroni 601 paper (Size: 125 mm) but failed to retrieved the filtered f-MWCNTs as it was completely embedded.

As I would be freeze drying the loaded f-MWCNTs and should have a minimum concentration of ethanol present (as it may affect the freezing of my formulation), I would be unable to stop at the washing step with ethanol. Similarly, my compound is temperature sensitive which would mean that I would not be able to oven dry my formulation. Do any of you have any suggestions to overcome this? Or possibly the type of filter papers and conditions that have worked for you?
