Do someone know if 16HBE cells can be cultured at the air-liquid interface (ALI cell colture) showing differentiation to a polarized epithelia? Are there protocols available on the www? tnks a lot
My colleagues at the US EPA are currently investigating that. We do air-liquid interface exposures to air pollutants and are interested in using the 16HBE cells. Work is in its early stage, but it seems like these cells can polarize.
In my hand too, they seem to form an epithelium. But after reaching a peak resistance of about 200 ohm*cm2, the epithelium starts to "degenerate", i.e. the resistance start to "slack off"...very quickly!
