Does anybody have any advice on the quality and functionality of the two high content imagers and their associated analysis software above? Image quality, ease of analysis, reliability etc. Many thanks in advance!
we have operetta and it has xenon lamp illumination only as much good for measurement and comparisons. Molecular devices has laser based system. that itself explains image quality. Ease of analysis may be same in both.
I have only used Molecular devices ImageXpress Micro and Ultra but think it is a very reliable system with good images. It is easy to view plate thumbnails and do analysis.
I think it really depends on your purpose. Consider that the analysis software that comes with the device is crucially important for the outcome. Since I used the operetta and opera system I can recommend these systems. The Harmony software has a really nice workflow. I would suggest to have a training or intro session to have hands-on, otherwise it is hard to tell. Additionally the building blocks for your screening experiments are really nice, therefore you do not have to write the scripts on your own, if you are not familiar with the programming. btw: you can still use own scripts of course (-: Also the operetta can do confocal imaging...so really good for localisation studies. to have a more high-end device: opera (PKI)
Vanderbilt VIIBRE core has the Operetta system and it's been a serving nightmare. We've only had it for 18 months and it is largely considered to be a waste of 750K. When it works, it's amazing.
