The FAO launched an application called "Interactive Wood Energy Statistics" or I-WESTAT back in 2004. It supposedly hosts the best available estimates of wood consumption for most countries in the world, compiled from a variety of sources. All documentation and metadata can be found here: http://www.fao.org/3/j6448e/j6448e00.htm#TopOfPage. However, I have been unable to gain or even request access to the database. Mailing addresses of contributing authors are no good. Does someone in the community have any experience with the matter or any idea on how to proceed?
