In your own experience, what are the best rules for small groups to prepare and write a scientific manuscript?

A very interesting question and one that collaborative folks on RG will appreciate. I believe that the best rules are the rules that the group agrees concerning their role(s), the amount of effort and time each has to put in, and the order that the names will be placed in the published manuscript. Each one has to give 100% of effort, and the 100% of A, B and C may not be quantitatively the same. Thanks.
