am working on environmental burkholderia spp but as i read lots of related polymxin resistance organism could grow on BCSA like ralstonia , Achromobacter , and others . can anyone plz help suggest a method on how to inhabit other bacteria except burkholderia like antibiotics or other chemical
I recommend that you diagnose using molecular methods using bacteria-specific primers that give more accurate and faster results
Unfortunately, these genera (and others not mentioned) are closely related and show similar capabilities in terms of antimicrobial resistance and metabolic abilities to degrade a wide panel of compounds. So it seems inevitable to exclude the other genera from growing on BCSA. It may be helpful to go through an enrichment step before plating on BCSA if possible. The enrichment step and medium employed depend on the species you desire to isolate, because different studies addressed different species within Burkholderia.
If enrichment step is not possible, you can check the identity of the suspected colony by traditional biochemical tests such as esculin hydrolysis, lysine decarboxylase, urease.. etc.
