This is my first time using Abaqus to conduct a dynamic analysis. I'm trying to simulate drop test of a helicopter skid landing gear but the skid is not colliding to the ground but penetrates into it. Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

Hi all, thank you so much for the recommendations.
I have defined the interaction between the surfaces of the deformable and the rigid part and Ive got an error 'A contact pair cannot define contact between 2d and 3d surfaces.' because I used beam elements for the deformable part. If I used surface to nodes contact the beams (pipe) will contact the ground at its central axis which is not desired.
I am thinking to change the beam (pipe) section of the skids to shell element. Does it sound like a good idea to overcome my problem? Would you recommend any other solution?
