2. The ones constrained to case study while acknowledging they do not have access to the tools of HD.
3. Those who do not know what they are doing and will go with the case study song.

To PhDs and Masters: Case study is a powerful frame that is too often abused. Let's get down the fundamentals. Imagine a space. It is a vacuum. Now bring in the components of your phenomenon. Suddenly you have objects and relationships. It is a dynamical system. At this point, a few of you may be able to use physics to illuminate the space strongly but many will not. However, we should all note...that space is intractable. The space does not lend itself to the generalisation of the hypothetico-deductive (HD) frame. So, what do we draw from the investigation? Questions that inspire other phenomena. I call it the epistemology of explication.
