What data are you trying to correlate? What do you want to achieve? How many data points for each parameter do you have?
the parameter I am looking are at temperature, surface water temperature, precipitation, discharge rate, ph and dissolved oxygen for a data that spans 30 years in the region. What statistical analysis can be use to see causation possibilities between precipitation, air temperature and river discharge rate?
If you are trying to correlate the observations (precipitation and air temperature) with the discharge rate. Assumption for linear regression:
The error size does not significantly vary across the independent variable's value.
The observations are independent.
Data are normally distributed.
The line that best fits the data points is a straight line.
If the above conditions are met, you can use multiple linear regression in Excel (or other statistical software).
Adding to Francesco's comment, you may want to explore various lag times for your correlations. For example, correlate water-year river discharge with water-year precipitation from the same and prior years in a single multiple linear regression analysis. River discharge generally lags precipitation over various time scales; so explore various time lags for correlations between precipitation data and river discharge data; especially when looking at seasonal and shorter periods for river discharge.
